Milo's Construction Zone

2.05.2013

We couldn't have picked a better theme for Milo's second birthday party. (Well, unless it was kittens. He is a freak for kittens!) He had a blast playing with trucks and being a construction worker all day. He put on that vest and didn't take it off! We had fun decorating with caution tape and road signs. We gave all the kids a "sack lunch" filled with construction trucks, books and Play-doh. The kids decorated hats, colored construction pictures, and dug in rubber mulch. We also set up a brown, orange and yellow candy buffet. It was a hit with the kids and the grownups! We even had Subway for lunch, just like a real construction worker might.

Since it's winter and we have to host an indoor party, we only invited our immediate families. Milo woke up with a cold the day before so we let everyone know and understood if they wanted to stay away from the germs. We lost half of our guest list, but it ended up being the perfect amount of people. Milo is a little shy. This way he wasn't overwhelmed at all. He wasn't very social though. He was his zone, playing with trucks, and having a great time by himself. He hung around me a lot more than usual too, but I think it's just because he wasn't feeling well.

I was a little worried about how he'd feel with all the attention on him while we sang Happy Birthday. He knows the song well and has been singing it for a month straight, so I kind of thought he'd just go with it and maybe even sing along. He got into his high chair and we cut a piece of cake for him (we didn't want him blowing on the entire cake since he had a cold).

I scooted back into the crowd to take some pictures while we sang. He started out just fine, looking at the cake and Jacob. Then he panned the room and noticed everyone was looking at him. He also started staring off into space and blinking, which is his way of saying, "Don't look at me. You can't see me." I knew he was over it and tried to get to him as fast as I could. When he couldn't find me in his audience he lost it. Full on, super sad, crocodile tears. I helped him blow out the candles and picked him up for a hug.

As soon as everyone dispersed and he realized that cake was still on his tray he wanted back down.
After a few bites he was as happy as can be, eating frosting and driving the truck cake-topper.

It was a pretty great party. The kids had fun, the food was devoured, and everyone stayed until bedtime. Success!

Except for trying to get a nice picture of Milo. He seriously HATES the camera.

Such a cute party theme. I love the vest and hats! Looks like he had fun and maybe him getting a cold was a good thing since it meant less people! Ha!

H and Milo are so similar! He had a construction party for his second birthday. Saturday will be his garbage truck party (HA). I am going to fill a bin with the rubber mulch. He is so excited. I showed him the photo of your boys playing with it.

That's the cutest theme! I like that's it's not your standard Disney/Pixar movie type of theme (though those can be cute too). And he looks really happy which is most important! Good job parents :))

You should be a party planner! Come plan my 30th? ;)

He is getting cuter and cuter by the day! Such a little man. So sweet that he still needs his mama.

Great job!
